Authoritarian Institutions and Regime Durability

Legislatures, parties, and elections in autocracies are often dismissed as window dressing. I study what elites actually do inside them: how loyalty is performed, when criticism is tolerated, and how these institutions absorb pressure and adapt as regimes face war, sanctions, and questions of succession.

Political Text as Data

Speech is one of the few observable traces of political behavior in closed regimes. I treat language as evidence of the constraints actors face, using changes in word choice, framing, tone, and argument to study how political actors navigate and respond to those constraints.

I am a data consultant, advising faculty and graduate students on research design, measurement, and quantitative methods, particularly projects involving text and network data. A selection of projects is below.
